Email List Building: Building Your Marketplace Step 3

So what is building your marketplace you ask? On a very basic level it is about building your email list. But it’s not about how to get a billion people on your list but rather attracting the right type of people for your business. I highly recommend reading Huge Profits With A Tiny List. This is part of a series on building your marketplace. Read the second step of building your marketplace which is about finding out what you have to offer those you attract. Now that you know what you can do to help those who you attract. The next step is to set a system to gather those people you want to attract and provide them the solution they are looking for.

Step 3 – Setting Up A System

Creating systems to help you in your business is definitely working smarter! Here are a few things you need: 1. Bait. Some useful information you can give away free or low cost. 2. Autoresponder. I use and recommend AWeber. 3. Follow up messages. Be sure to have a series of messages ready to go out over the course a few weeks, months. Once you start gathering together the people who you want to attract in your business (and onto your list) then you can start finding out what problems they are having. You can do this by sending out an email that asks them what they need help with. Or you can send them to a survey (SurveyMonkey). Of course, then you can create a product that solves their problem. Keep things simple and you will succeed. That’s step 1, step 2, and step 3 are short and to the point. When you keep things simple you will see more results! This is part of a series on building your marketplace. Read the first step of building your marketplace which is to know who you want to attract.

Now that we are crystal clear on who we want to attract, step 2 is all about getting clear on ourselves and what we have to offer the people we want to attract.

Step 2 – What Do You Have To Offer?

In other words, how can you help them? In order to answer this you must know what they are looking for. This comes with knowing your marketplace. Can you help them solve a problem? Help them make more moeny? Help them save time?

Knowing what you have to offer just comes down to knowing your skills and what you are good at doing.

For example, maybe you are a great writer and you know how to write effective press releases. Or maybe you know how to manage your time so you know you could help someone else manage their time.

Make a list of what your marketplace needs or wants and then see how your skills can meet those needs or wants.

Your solution to their problem will typically be in the form of a product or a service. Now all you need to do is put the product/service together.

So what is building your marketplace you ask? On a very basic level it is about building your email list. But it’s not about how to get a billion people on your list but rather attracting the right type of people for your business. I highly recommend reading Huge Profits With A Tiny List.

Building your marketplace is about finding and connecting with the type of people you have a solution for. It’s gathering together those who find your work, services, products, solutions valuable.

It was only until recently that I have seen the power of building your marketplace. The power comes when people in your marketplace buy up everything you have to offer…because they know, like, and trust you.

I am convinced that building your marketplace is the key to long term growth and stability in your business.

Okay, so what do you have to do to build your marketplace?

Step 1 – Know Who You Want To Attract

Who is your target market? Identify specifically who you are serving in your business. Who wants or needs what you have? Are they business owners? Women? Men? Parents? Vegetarians? Young? Old? Who do they associate with?

Write down the type of people you want to attract. It doesn’t make sense to go out and get just anyone on your list. You have to have a target. These are people who are going to respond to what you have to offer them.  Really think about this step and get really clear about it.
