Does Your Lead Magnet (Freebie Offer) Suck?

lead magnet suck One of the most powerful assets you can build in your online business is an email list. The quickest way to build your list is to offer a freebie – something so juicy it’s a complete no-brainer deal for your ideal customer to sign up for.

However, what you offer makes a BIG difference in the quantity and quality of your list. There are two major things you want your freebie to do.

  1. You want it to be something that your ideal client will find so valuable that they will not hesitate to grab it right away.
  2. The free offer should lead the prospect to your core product or service.

Let’s look at point #1.  You must create an irresistible free incentive or offer that your ideal client finds valuable – NOT what you find valuable.

This is critical to attracting the right people. Your free offer must be something that is useful to your ideal client so they sign up right away. It must speak to them. It should be so attractive to them that they have to get it.

It really doesn’t matter how you provide it – it can be a webinar, CD, worksheet, checklist, ebook, etc. Some work better than others and you find this out through testing. But all that really matters is that your incentive provides a solution to a problem they are having.

People LOVE instant gratification. Can you give them something that solves a problem quickly and instantly? Think: if they do this then that will happen type of solution. Play to the instant gratification factor. Checklists are working GREAT for me as a free incentive to join my list. But I also test other free offers (like the one you are reading now).

In order to create this type of incentive you have to deeply know what your ideal client desires.

Ask yourself: What is painful to her? What problem does she need solved right now? What products does she buy? What is her biggest frustration right now? What is blocking her from having ultimate success in a certain area?

If you already have a list then survey them, ask for feedback, get on Skype and talk to your ideal clients. Understand the underlying problems and frustrations. Go back to Facebook and do more digging.

Let’s look at point #2. There is no sense in setting up a free offer, driving traffic to it, and getting sign ups just for the fun of it.  You will not make money this way. Your juicy incentive should be directly connected to your main program or service. At the end of the freebie OR at the end of the follow up email messages your prospect should think that your program or service is the next logical step.

If you get both of these things right you’ll start building a quality email list that will help you earn more cash.

Building Traffic: How To Increase Web Traffic

Everybody wants to know how to increase web traffic, right!? The more traffic, the more sales! But of course, we don’t want just any type of traffic. We want targeted traffic. We want people who are interested in whatever it is we are selling or giving away.

Building Traffic 101

First, in order to increase your web traffic you have to have something of value to offer. It doesn’t matter if your selling something or you are giving out information. There must be a reason and a goal for wanting to build traffic to your website (blog, salespage, whatever).

Do you want more readers? Do you want to sell more services?  Do you want to sell more affiliate products?

Second, you need to know who you want to attract to that offer. Third, you have to go find the type of people you want to attract.

Checking Traffic Sources (Google Analytics)

Allie from Ramblings of a WAHM, reminded me about checking traffic sources through my Google Analytics. After looking at my PLR site traffic sources, I realized a few cool things.

The top 10 traffic sources are (not counting direct):

1. Warrior Forum
2. Google Organic – yeah free traffic!
3. AWeber
4. My Blog (this blog)
5. SmartPassiveIncome.com (Pat is a smart man!)
6. PLRDealGuide.com (very cool PLR deals site)
7. MochaMoneyMakers.com
8. PLRContentShop.com
9. Twitter – Started being more active!
10. TheNicheBlogger.com

My traffic increased by 50% from Feb to March. Cool! I just opened an affiliate program recently and it looks like a few of these sources are from affiliates so that’s exciting!

But what does this tell me? It tells me that…

Being social and building relationships, having an email list, using targeted keywords, and creating an affiliate program WORKS to increase traffic!

Let’s take a look at why these online marketing stategies work to increase traffic.

Forum Posting

Over at Peggy Baron’s blog we just did a little traffic building challenge. Overall, I did see an increase in traffic because I was targeting the right type of people to my offer (PLR). I went to where my market hangs out. This is key!

Action: Find out where your target market hangs out online!

Blog Commenting

I seem to find new and inspiring blogs every day. Stopping by and leaving your thoughts is great for three reasons. 1.) you are building relationships (which is important and shouldn’t be overlooked) plus you can find more great blogs when you look at the other comments 2.) you are providing a way for others to find you and 3.) you are building backlinks.

It plain works to increase traffic!

Action: Find blogs that are in your target market and keep in touch.

Email List

Now that I’ve started to build a targeted email list I see how important it is. Not only for building traffic but also for increasing sales.  If you haven’t started building your email list then make that a priority! I can help you just let me know.

Action: Start building a targeted email list today. If you have already have one…do you have a squeeze page?

Affiliate Program

I am convinced that having my own products and services and recruiting affiliates is a very important part of my business. I will be working on increasing things in this area. If you don’t have something you own and sell…start working on that part now.

Action: Do you have something to sell? You need to recruite affiliates! I just joined Income CPR.  Learn with me as I increase my sales.

Analytics

It’s important to take a look on a regular basis to see where your traffic is coming from. This can help you assess where you need to focus your marketing efforts. You will be surprised at the bits of information you can find in your analytics!

Action: Are you tracking your web traffic? I hope so! If not, use Google Analytics or your host provider has tracking available.

Let me know! What do you think? How do you increase web traffic to your offer?

Email List Building: Building Your Marketplace Step 3

So what is building your marketplace you ask? On a very basic level it is about building your email list. But it’s not about how to get a billion people on your list but rather attracting the right type of people for your business. I highly recommend reading Huge Profits With A Tiny List. This is part of a series on building your marketplace. Read the second step of building your marketplace which is about finding out what you have to offer those you attract. Now that you know what you can do to help those who you attract. The next step is to set a system to gather those people you want to attract and provide them the solution they are looking for.

Step 3 – Setting Up A System

Creating systems to help you in your business is definitely working smarter! Here are a few things you need: 1. Bait. Some useful information you can give away free or low cost. 2. Autoresponder. I use and recommend AWeber. 3. Follow up messages. Be sure to have a series of messages ready to go out over the course a few weeks, months. Once you start gathering together the people who you want to attract in your business (and onto your list) then you can start finding out what problems they are having. You can do this by sending out an email that asks them what they need help with. Or you can send them to a survey (SurveyMonkey). Of course, then you can create a product that solves their problem. Keep things simple and you will succeed. That’s step 1, step 2, and step 3 are short and to the point. When you keep things simple you will see more results! If you haven’t starting building your marketplace what is holding you back???

Email List Building: Building Your Marketplace Step 2

So what is building your marketplace you ask? On a very basic level it is about building your email list. But it’s not about how to get a billion people on your list but rather attracting the right type of people for your business. I highly recommend reading Huge Profits With A Tiny List.

This is part of a series on building your marketplace. Read the first step of building your marketplace which is to know who you want to attract.

Now that we are crystal clear on who we want to attract, step 2 is all about getting clear on ourselves and what we have to offer the people we want to attract.

Step 2 – What Do You Have To Offer?

In other words, how can you help them? In order to answer this you must know what they are looking for. This comes with knowing your marketplace. Can you help them solve a problem? Help them make more moeny? Help them save time?

Knowing what you have to offer just comes down to knowing your skills and what you are good at doing.

For example, maybe you are a great writer and you know how to write effective press releases. Or maybe you know how to manage your time so you know you could help someone else manage their time.

Make a list of what your marketplace needs or wants and then see how your skills can meet those needs or wants.

Your solution to their problem will typically be in the form of a product or a service. Now all you need to do is put the product/service together.

Stay tuned for Step #3 – How To Step Up A System!

Email List Building: Building Your Marketplace Step 1

So what is building your marketplace you ask? On a very basic level it is about building your email list. But it’s not about how to get a billion people on your list but rather attracting the right type of people for your business. I highly recommend reading Huge Profits With A Tiny List.

Building your marketplace is about finding and connecting with the type of people you have a solution for. It’s gathering together those who find your work, services, products, solutions valuable.

It was only until recently that I have seen the power of building your marketplace. The power comes when people in your marketplace buy up everything you have to offer…because they know, like, and trust you.

I am convinced that building your marketplace is the key to long term growth and stability in your business.

Okay, so what do you have to do to build your marketplace?

Step 1 – Know Who You Want To Attract

Who is your target market? Identify specifically who you are serving in your business. Who wants or needs what you have? Are they business owners? Women? Men? Parents? Vegetarians? Young? Old? Who do they associate with?

Write down the type of people you want to attract. It doesn’t make sense to go out and get just anyone on your list. You have to have a target. These are people who are going to respond to what you have to offer them.  Really think about this step and get really clear about it.

Tomorrow we’ll talk about Step #2 –  What do you have to offer?
