If you’ve been around for any length of time then you know that there is one thing that is guaranteed – change.
Things change in Internet Marketing thus my title Adventures In Internet Marketing. It truly is an adventure! Sometimes we have to roll with the punches, change our plans, or come up with a new approach.
Last year, Google made a big update (referred to as MayDay) that practically killed my Adsense income. This year, Google made another big change that has many people freaking out. I didn’t see any change with my rankings. But, I really focus on building quality and useful content.
Google has a great and valid point. They are ensuring that searchers get relevent, quality, USEFUL information back when they type in a keyword to perform a search.
It is important for us to lay a solid foundation and build on the one thing that will never change.
So what is the one thing that will never change?
Useful and original information that helps your target market do whatever it is they want to do.
How can we do that?
Really all this means is to put more of YOU into your content.
What can we do to lessen the effects of search engine updates?
Diversify and do not solely rely on search engine traffic.
- Build an email list. When you build a list of people who are interested in you and your business then still have targeted leads (even if your rankings dropped).
- Be passionate and build a following (something I am going to be putting more effort into). Be a voice, be unique, be thoughtful, become an authority in your market.
- Create your own products so that your income is not completely tied to rankings or someone else’s products.
I think a lot of us niche bloggers got caught up in keywords, rankings, and massive content production that we forgot a little about creating really useful content. I know I did at one point.
So what do you think about search engines changes and what are you doing to make sure you don’t lose your income overnight?
