Yesterday Mari Smith had a great informational post all about Facebook’s news feed. She talked about how there are as many as 100,000 individual components in the Facebook news feed algorithm (wow).
The three algorithm elements – Affinity, Weight, and Time Decay – that were important in the past are even more important today.
Each day there are over 1.15 billion active users and 18 million Pages!! That is a ton of content and makes Facebook’s job even harder. They have to decide who gets to see what content. We don’t know exactly how they do it, but there are some thing we do and one of things we do know is the point of this post today.
Engagement is the goal. And you can’t get people to engage with your posts if they don’t see them.
Affinity – Measures who you are close to on a personal and global basis. For business, the most important thing you can do is not only teach/train/encourage people to click like, but also to get notifications and all updates in their news feed. See photo.
1. Click Like 2. Get Notifications and 3. All Updates. If they don’t see your updates then they will not have the chance to engage. AND engagement is the key to getting your posts seen even more in the news feed.
