Get The 411 On Periscoping For Business

FullSizeRender (10)I LOVE hosting webinars, so when I first found out about Periscope back in May, I was very curious.

I thought it was REALLY cool and a big step up from doing webinars because Periscope allows you to connect with your tribe in a very informal and real sorta way.

I started using it and then realized that anyone can join your ‘scope’. This led to me banning several sick-o’s who started saying nasty things in the chat box. Ugh. That actually turned me off, and I stopped experimenting with Periscope even though I knew it was going to be BIG and I liked the concept from the beginning.

I wondered if it was really worth it since anyone could join and not just your peeps, but then I realized you can ban people and you can let your tribe know when you’ll be broadcasting. Who cares about those few bad apples (trolls), right!?

So now I’m back in the game and have started experimenting with it. Follow me for daily scopes on practical biz and marketing tips @lisastoops!

I don’t know about other industries, but Periscoping for business is going to be huge (it already is).

Live broadcasting is changing the way we connect with our prospects and customers. The trend in online business keeps getting more and more personal.

People LOVE to look behind the scenes and want to get to know the person/people behind the brand. Instagram was awesome when it came out because you could use your phone to take pics and post them immediately. Now Periscope takes it all to another level with video.

There are other apps that do this but I love Periscope for business because it connects to Twitter. Facebook is currently testing live broadcasting and could possibly be huge too.

Video has always been the best way to get people online to know, like, and trust you faster. Now we have LIVE video where people can interact with you. SQUEEEE so fun!

So if you are interested in growing a bigger tribe and connecting on a deeper level with them, then give Periscope a try!

What Is Periscope?

Periscope is an app you download onto your phone and use it to broadcast live from wherever you are in the world. Anyone can join your ‘scope’ and enter text into the chat box. Twitter acquired Periscope so it is connect to your Twitter handle. Learn more here. If you have a Twitter account it will be really quick and easy to set up.

What the heck are hearts?

You’ll notice hearts on the right part of your screen. Viewers can tap the screen and give you hearts to show their support. Those that have the most hearts, win. Just kidding – well maybe not – but I’m not sure if you get anything for hearts. If you know, please let me know in the comments below this post.

Chat boxes

You’ll notice chat boxes popping up and then fading out. Viewers can chat with you so be sure to make it interactive!

Finding people on Periscope

You can do a search and find people you know on Periscope and click the follow icon.

12 Tips On How To Effectively Use Periscope In Your Biz

Note: I’ll be updating this post as I continue to learn about how to effectively use it in my biz.

  1. Get your tribe to follow you on Periscope. Let people know in your email, blog, and on social media where to follow you and when you’ll be broadcasting.
  2. Broadcast on a regular basis (maybe even at a regular time of day) so your tribe can tune in easily.
  3. Tell people to share your ‘Scope’ while you are live (swiping the screen left on iPhone and up on Android).
  4. Periscope saves your broadcasts for 24 hours, but you can enable auto save (do this in the settings before broadcasting for the first time) so that the broadcast will save to your phone (this is important to do especially if you are doing training’s and want to save the broadcast to send out to your tribe later).
  5. What will you talk about? This can be the most intimating thing…because you are broadcasting LIVE! Plan out your content and when you’ll scope ahead of time!
  6. Get nasty comments in the chat box? Ban them when you see the comment! Swipe or click on the comment and you can ban the user.
  7. Because anyone from around the world can tune in, let people know who you are and what you do. Don’t forget to drop links letting people know where they can find you online.
  8. Be strategic. What is your main goal right now? If you are in the middle of a launch – make sure people know where to find what you’re selling. If you want people to opt-in to your freebie, let them know.
  9. Interact and engage with the people that tune into your scope.
  10. Repurpose your scopes! If you did a mini training, turn it into an opt-in that people have to sign up for (great for 7-10 day challenges). Get your scope transcribed and put it on your blog and send it out to your email list.
  11. To build your tribe even more, promote your scopes just like you would promote anything.
  12. Get a phone tripod and mic for even better viewing pleasure! 🙂

Finally I’d love to hear from you! Are you using Periscope? What tips do you have that will make scoping more easy and fun?

Can’t wait to see you out there scopin’!
