I’ve heard successful business people say the PLR is crap. Actually someone (big name) told me he would never recommend anyone use it.

I get that PLR has gotten a bad name over the years (even though it has gotten a MUCH better reputation over the last few years due to stellar PLR producers like Alice, Ruth, Peggy and many more).

I find that really funny/strange because private labeling is HUGE outside of the internet marketing world. You will find many companies offering private labels for various tangible products.

The thing is most ‘guru’s’ will tell you NOT to reinvent the wheel. AND that’s the exact point I want to make about using PLR content. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel!

The key to having success with PLR content is to use it to back up the knowledge you already have. So let’s say you are a health coach or something like that. You already have the knowledge and expertise…why waste time reinventing the wheel? Why waste time putting together your products, programs and services by starting completely from scratch? You shouldn’t. You should find PLR content that is similar to your expertise and tweak it so that you can get your stuff out into the world MUCH faster!

7 Powerful Ways To Use PLR Content

1. Support Your Expertise - So the very first powerful way to use PLR content is to use it to support your knowledge and expertise. If you want to create a program on setting up a WordPress blog then find PLR that already spells it all out. You are the expert so go through the content and fix what needs fixing, add to parts that need more information, take out any unnecessary info, etc.

2. Social Media – Take little bits of information and use it to post to your Facebook page, Twitter, and Google+ accounts. This is a great way to keep people you are connected with engaged with you and your brand.

3. Freebies – Giving away content is a great way to get people to learn more about who you are and what you do. PLR content makes it that much easier to get info out!

4. Create a Webinar – Just put your content into slides and you can quickly create an event like a webinar to teach, support, or connect with your market.

5. Self Pubish on Amazon – Use PLR content to self publish on Kindle or even publish your own book on Amazon. Again this reinforces your brand.

6. Email Marketing – I LOVE using PLR content in emails because it’s super easy to do. This also helps you stay connected and helps people remember who you are.

7. Podcast or Web TV show – Use PLR content to create a podcast or web TV show so that you will always have something to say.

Good PLR also gives you ideas of what to talk and write about. The bottom line here is that there is nothing new under the sun. Using PLR content is just a powerful way to get content out to your ideal market that much faster.

So what’s stopping you from using PLR? Or if you do use it please let us know how you use it in your biz!

Once you have created your freebie offer and set up your simple system - now is the time to promote, promote, promote! So what can you do to get as many signups as possible?

First, always make sure that you are getting in front of your target market. Also, don’t just promote one day and never promote again. Consistency is key (trust me I’ve learned the hard way). Don’t forget that the more places you are found the better your chances are for more opt-ins. You are building leads and prospects so think about where you can reach your ideal customer.

Here are a few of my favorite tried and true ways for getting traffic to your squeeze page:

Forums – Participate in your industry forums. Buy ad spots if you can.

Solo Ads – Places like Safe-Swaps are great for getting leads.

Joint Ventures – Find a few people that have similar markets to you and ask if they will send out your freebie. This works best if you have a paid offer on the backend. It just depends on the offer (how much value you are giving away in your freebie) and the JV partner.

Social Media – Be social and spread the word (without spamming of course).

Social Ads – Depending on your offer you can place ads on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. I love paid traffic because you can see results immediately. If you have a paid offer on the back end of your funnel then it can pay for itself.

Use Your Blog – Direct people from all pages of your blog to your squeeze page.

If you haven’t already, you should at this point be thinking about what type of paid product you can create. You don’t want to get people to sign up and then only give them information without making any sales, right? Afterall, you’re in business!

So the next step is to start or complete your paid product. You want to get it out to your list as soon as possible.

How do you drive traffic to your squeeze pages? Let me know in the comments below!

So now that you have created your freebie it’s time to set up your freebie offer so that you can start collecting names and emails in exchange for the freebie. Here is what you’ll need:

Autoresponder – I use AWeber for my autoresponder and highly recommend it.

A place to add your form (blog or squeeze page)

A download page

One week of follow up messages (3-5 emails)

Most autoresponders guide you through setting up a campaign. If you need help with AWeber, contact me and I’ll help you. Before you can add your form you’ll need to decide where you will put it. I would recommend putting it on a squeeze page – a page where the visitor has no other options but to sign up or leave the page.

There are MANY ways to create a squeeze page. It just depends on what type of platform you are using. If you use WordPress then you can easily create a full width page or you can use something like Instabuilder. You can make really good looking squeeze pages with Instabuilder (see pic to the right). You could always use a basic HTML page as well. Adding your form is as simple as copying and pasting the code they give you.

In your first follow up message you want to make sure that your subscribers are taken to a page where they can download their free gift. I like to use a download page because you can always put an offer on the bottom half of the page. All you do is create a new page in WordPress (or use another HTML page), upload your freebie (in a zip file) to your hosting of choice (Amazon S3 or on your server) and add the link to the page.

Don’t forget to add a few messages to your follow up series. The follow up series should go out for about a week. During these 7 days it’s good to make an offer. You want to convert your subscribers into buyers as quickly as you can.

There are many ways to set it up. The point is to keep it simple and change things up as you go.

So what do you think? Have you gotten all the pieces together and set up your squeeze page and download links? Let me know if you have any questions.

I don’t know where I would be in business without my email list (thanks for your support)! It is truly the one thing I could not do without. I can get away with not blogging. I can get away with not doing video, connecting on Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest.

But there is one thing I CANNOT do if I want to be in business and that is building a list. Knowing this I need to get my butt in gear so that I can take care of those on my list and so I can grow it even larger. Not that it’s about numbers, but people do change direction and do other things so it’s wise to always be growing your list.

Join Me!

So for the next 90-120 days my main focus will be on growing my list, tracking/testing offers and different ways to get traffic to my optin pages as well as providing a lot of great content for my subscribers. And I’m going to start off at zero…yep a brand new list. If you are new to building your list then follow along and subscribe in the box above to get my progress emails!

Step 1: The Freebie Offer

Okay so the first step in building your email list is to decide what topic you’ll be discussing and what your freebie offer will be. The point is to give something away for free in exchange for an email address. To get the most subscribers possible make sure that the freebie is something useful. Remember these are people (not just a number) looking for help.

Here are some ideas:

Give templates, spreadsheets, checklists to help subscribers improve something.

Audio – Record a simple audio going over how to do something.

Video – Create a 3 part video series on your topic.

Schedule a webinar that they can access for free.

eCourse – If you have a lot of info to share break it up over 7 days or so in an email ecourse.

Combine some of the above ideas to create even more value.

Think about what freebie impressed you the most and do something similar.

Short, sweet and to the point. So now is the time to get it done. Pick something and go do it. That is what I’m going to do now.

Got any freebie ideas to share? Let it be known in the comments below. If you need help brainstorming let me know below too!

Finding new business leads can be a challenge but it’s essential to the success of any online business. Some business owners resort to buying email lists but this can be costly and there is no guarantee that the list is accurate or that the leads are any good. Plus they are not targeted. You want hot, targeted leads.

Fortunately, all it takes is a little time and effort to get qualified leads online. I’m talking about leads that are interested in your products and services and very likely to purchase from you. Here are a few ideas:

1. Build A Mailing List

Visitors to your website are potential customers. Ask your visitors to sign up and provide their contact information. Names and email address should be enough, since most people will balk at providing more information. Let your visitors know that they will be receiving more than advertising emails. They should also be able to get special offers, discounts, etc.

2. Write Great Articles

Articles that are interesting and informative will attract potential customers. Make sure they have the right keywords for SEO so that people will find them easily. Submit these articles to various websites for publication. Be sure to include a link to your website.

3. Create And Post Informative Video Clips

Videos posted on YouTube can be viewed by thousands, if not millions, of people. Create a great description of your video and include keyword phrases so that your video will show up in searches related to your topic. Be sure to include your URL in the video description so that people can find you.

4. Join Forums Your Customers May Be Part Of

Find out what your prospective customers want and are interested in. Participate in the discussion but never make blatant references to your product or service. Establish yourself as an expert, gain your prospective customers’ trust, and build a rapport with them. This is the best way to promote your business and get more leads online. When posting to forums, remember to include your contact information and URL.

5. Search Engine Optimization

Obtain quality leads online by attracting targeted prospective customers to your website or blog. An expert on SEO can help set up your site so that people who are searching for your product or service will be able to find you easily.

6. Social Media

Networking through social media is an excellent way to come in contact with people who might be interested in your products. Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin can help you meet people, make friends, and start networking with them.

7. Give Out Free Reports

Free content in the form of informative reports as a “thank you” to visitors who leave their email address is an effective way to attract qualified leads. This is also a great way to start establishing yourself as an expert. Make sure the information or tips you give are what your target market wants to know about.

8. Use Your Website Or Blog

Your site or blog should play an active role in generating leads. Provide an option – prominently displayed – where visitors can leave their contact information. At the same time, make it easy for people to contact you. Publish your email address, phone and fax numbers.

9. Pay Per Click Advertising

Google’s AdWords allows businesses to place targeted ads on search engine results. The amount you pay varies depending on the keywords/phrases. You only pay when a visitor clicks on your link. Facebook Ads is another place where you can buy targeted traffic. I’m experimenting with this now and will let you know more about my results soon.

10. Provide Full Contact Details In Your Email’s Signature

This is a simple yet effective way to obtain leads. Make your full contact details visible on all your emails so that when someone forwards an email from you to any of their contacts, that person will be able to get in touch with you easily. I just started experimenting with Wise Stamp and so far I like it…check them out.

So what do you think? Do you do any of these things? Or maybe you do something else. Let us know in the comments below!

I love looking back over the year to see what I’ve accomplished or where I need to improve. Last year I wrote Goodbye 2011, Hello 2012 and shared what I learned and accomplished. Reading that post made me think about how this is a journey and I’m in it for the long haul. It has been said that the journey is of much more value than the end result. I have to agree!

This year has been a year of transition and how to grow from one level to the next. Unfortunately, I got stuck. I felt a little paralyzed actually. I didn’t do much over the last 6 months because I wasn’t sure what I really wanted to do. Thankfully two things saved me. I had recurring income and I started a biz makeover on the 30 day vlogging challenge. I am finally seeing light at the end of that dark tunnel! Whew!

A couple of months ago I came across this quote: You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want. ~Zig Ziglar

I’m sure that is not the first time I heard it, but it really struck a cord. So my goal for 2013 is to help as many people possible to get what they want out of their business. Now before I create anything I’ll ask how is this going to help my market get what they want out of their business?

I also posted the following on the Warrior Forum. These are more lessons learned or relearned this past year!

Friendships rule – I have gotten to know more people this year than ever before. Friendships rule online! Are you building friendships?

Recurring income – is a big fat must in my biz. I am sooo happy I created streams of income that are recurring. It has saved me many-a-times!! Do you have recurring income (at least a little bit)?

Redesign – a fresh redesign of my PLR store helped to motivate and inspire me to do even better. Redesigns can give you a fresh outlook and renewed sense of commitment. Still working on one for my blog.

Comfort zones – are dangerous and you must step out of your comfort zone to push yourself to reach higher goals. If you don’t feel a little nervous then maybe you aren’t pushing yourself out of the zone enough.

Mindset – OMG is mindset HUGE. All you need is the right mindset and you will achieve anything. You need mental strength to get over the many obstacles you WILL face. How tough are you???? How confident are you?

Keeping it simple – is a must. Overcomplicating things that are not complicated only delays your success. All in all, the things that work are simple – have something to sell (yours or someone else’s) and building an email list.

Being real – being yourself is what separates you from everyone else. So why not be you?

What are some things you have learned or relearned?

I hope you all have a very happy new year and find all you are looking for in 2013!!

What about you??? What have you learned or relearned or UNlearned this past year? I’d love to know in the comments below!

I got a 90 minute massage from Massage Envy the other day. I just thought I was going for a massage but you never really just do one thing do you? The marketer in me began to take notice of my whole experience from the time I signed up online to the time I left (with a membership btw!).

Here some key things I observed:

I was able to book my appointment online. But a rep did call me to confirm everything. Super easy.

I was instantly greeted by three ladies at the front door who introduced themselves promptly.

I was offered water.

They called me by my name. Yes, that’s important and it stuck out to me!

I was taken into the back to talk a little about any types of problems I might have been having.

I was led to a tranquil area to wait briefly for my massage therapist (they also let me know her qualifications).

I was promptly moved to a room where the massage therapist talked for a few minutes.

After the massage the therapist let me know her recommendations and I was off to the payment counter…and that’s when the fun began (for the marketer in me).

The ladies at the counter were very nice. One of them must have had some sales training because she was not going to let me go until I signed up. Not that she was rude but I could tell. Here’s what I took notice of…

The biz model was largely based on MEMBERSHIPS (which I love, love, love and you can learn more here and here). The major perk of being a member was that you got a big discount on all types of massages. You could also purchase one massage at time, you didn’t have to get a membership.

But why wouldn’t you want to if it was going to save you money.

Of course, this would only appeal to you if you were going to get at least one massage per month.

Besides that they made it VERY easy for me to sign up with NO out of pocket money (except for what I owed for the massage I just had). Since I want to start getting a massage at least once a month it was pretty much a no-brainer for me.

Now how can you and I take some of these easy, no-brainer tactics and use them in our business starting today? Let me know what you think in the comments below!

I’m excited to share more insights with you from a friend and fellow product creator – Ruth Pound. Ruth has quite a success story in that she is able to make a living completely online AND travel at the same time (she is currently traveling all over Southeast Asia).

Ruth started making money online by writing in 2008 and has since grown to become an editor, service provider, website developer, blogger, affiliate marketer, PLR provider and, most importantly, she is her own boss! You can find out more about her at The Internet Dream. Her latest project is a Kindle book series. Check out her answers to my questions below! I think we can all learn a lot!

What is the name of your first Kindle book?

How To Become An Online Writer

How did you come up with the topic?

I didn’t do much research – this was a topic I just knew I wanted to write about. I did do some keyword research, but only to tweak the title. It’s also a good idea to take a look at how other books in your niche are selling on Amazon (by checking their sales rank).

In the past few years I’ve set up more niche sites than I care to admit, and one thing I learned over that time is that it’s far better to focus on the things I know about and am passionate about. Since I’ve been getting paid to write content for the web (in some form or another) for four years now, online writing seemed to be the most natural topic for me to write on.

I understand it’s part of a series. How did you come up with that idea?

I’ve been reading about Kindle publishing for a while now, and have seen people achieving success in a number of ways. One way is to create a series.

One major benefit of doing this is that it isn’t so overwhelming to write. You can write it in shorter installments (maybe 8,000 – 20,000 words) with each book focused around a specific part of the subject as a whole. Although some people try to publish the whole series of books in one go, I’m not sure if I would ever have gotten started if I had such a big goal!

The second benefit is that you can use the first book of the series to hook people in. This might work better with fiction, but it can work for non-fiction too. In my series, Online Writing Freedom, the first book is more of a beginner-level introduction, and I’m planning to keep the price low to make it accessible. The reader will definitely benefit from each of the books on their own, but hopefully they’ll want to get the whole series to get the complete picture and move onto more advanced strategies.

What research did you do?

I read quite a few books in my niche to see what they covered, and what the Amazon reviewers liked and disliked about the books. From this research, I brainstormed the general book topics for my whole series, and then made a rough outline for the first book.

I know the topic well, so I didn’t need to research the details. I did, however, need to make sure that what I wrote would make sense to complete beginners. This is where Amazon reviews and relevant forums can come in handy. Also, having an outsider read the book for me helped me to tweak it for beginners.

I know nothing about the process of creating a Kindle book and getting it on Amazon. Does it take a long time and are there many steps? Cost anything?

The main thing to be aware of is the formatting. As part of a past Kindle course I signed up to, I already had access to a formatting tool that does the work for me. I did, however, upload books in the past without the aid of a tool (which have since been removed since I didn’t realize Amazon does not accept content already published for free elsewhere).

You can find free or very cheap instructions online to help you format your book in Word, and you upload the Word document directly, but Kindle can mess up some parts of the formatting (like bullet points and indentations). The other steps involved in uploading are all easy to follow. But I do think it’s worth putting some effort in to make sure the formatting works correctly, as I have seen people get negative reviews for it. It’s something I still want to learn more about.

How do you determine pricing with Kindle books?

ricing is something I think you need to experiment with, and it depends on your market and the content of your book. For my first book, I’ve priced it at $0.99 (the lowest it can be) to hopefully build up a reputation for my series.

I’ll probably keep the price of the first book low for the reasons mentioned above, but price subsequent books at a higher price. With so many self-published authors now charging $0.99 for their books, I think it is worth experimenting with higher price points to see if the price affects the perceived value of the book.

Also bear in mind that you can earn the higher 70% royalty fee for books priced from $2.99 to $9.99. All other prices will earn you 35% royalty.

Did you create the ecover yourself or outsource it?

I really believe the cover makes a huge difference in sales, so I outsourced it. Before I did, I had a look around other covers in my niche to get a feel for what I might like, but I ultimately left the design up to the designer. Note: Ruth used http://quicksitestudio.com.

Any advice to someone who wants to get started?

My best advice is to start now. Although I’ve been writing online for four years, writing this book was very difficult. Not because of the length, but because the idea of a book going out there in front of so many people scared me. I found that writing just one page a day helped keep me keep moving towards my goals (thanks to Tiffany Dow for starting the page a day Kindle challenge).

All in all, it looks like one of the keys to success is starting with what you know! What do you think? Have you started writing a Kindle book? Let me know your thoughts below!

If there is one thing you MUST have in order to earn an income online - it’s targeted TRAFFIC!

I have been experimenting with a lot of traffic tactics lately. There are many free and paid traffic tactics and BOTH work great. Like with anything there are pros and cons to both ways of getting traffic.

While I like boths types there’s something about paid traffic that I love! I’m quite sure it has something to do with INSTANT traffic. No waiting for months to see if an offer converts! You can find out within hours really.

The best part is that if you create a product and sales funnel that converts and becomes profitable then you can afford to spend money on ads and continue to siphon leads/customers 24 hrs/7 days a week. Now that’s smart.

Enter Facebook Ads

If you are looking for a lot of targeted traffic FAST then use Facebook ads! I’ve been playing around with Facebook ads over the past week and have learned so much thanks to Amy’s awesome training. But one thing I’m shocked about is that for the most part I’ve been paying .07-.11 per click, which is pretty good if you know anything about paid traffic. When I played around with Google Adwords I NEVER got that low.

There are a lot of ways to use Facebook ads to drive traffic. Here are 3 things I’m using it to do right now:

1. Drive Traffic to Blog Posts – If you want more engagement or more eyeballs on your content then use Facebook ads to get more people to your blog posts.

2. Drive Traffic to Opt-in Page – If you want more leads coming into your business then use Facebook ads to drive traffic to your squeeze page.

3. Build More Likes on Business Page – If you want more likes to build social proof then use Facebook ads to drive traffic to ‘Like’ your page.

I went from around 178 likes to more than 1100 likes off of a couple of days promotion and spent less than $50 (my first time using Facebook Ads too)! I also got a lot of opt-ins (though I wasn’t tracking very closely). The key to low cost per click is to have pictures that pop and ad copy that speaks to your market. The higher your click thru rate the better it is for you! Of course, you should always test to make sure you have the best possible ad running.

What about you? Do you use paid traffic sources? Have any questions? Let me know below!

I’ve written about using PLR before, but there is nothing like seeing how others use it to grow their business. So today I picked Amanda’s brain to see how she is using PLR content in her business.

Amanda currently runs Adventures in Online Marketing and she also creates and sells her own PLR. You can find quality PLR in her store. Amanda feels that internet marketing is an adventure that should be enjoyed.

I agree! Now let’s find out how Amanda use PLR content to make money in her business.

I know that you’re a big user (and creator) of PLR content. How do you use it in your business? Can you give us some examples?

The best part about PLR is that there are so many different ways to use it. Of course there is the simple rewrite which I do pretty often when I need content for my niche sites, but there are plenty of other ways to make use of it.

I mainly use PLR articles. My favorite way to use PLR articles is to create a script for a video based on an article. YouTube and Vimeo are great for generating traffic but sometimes I struggle to come up with a good script. I can take a PLR article and pull out the points I want to cover to create a PowerPoint presentation and read over it with the script I created.

PLR articles are also perfect for setting up your autoresponder series or promoting affiliate products. I love to load up PLR articles in between promo emails for my niche lists so I can easily keep providing them with great information and build trust.

I also use a lot of PLR ebooks and reports. They are great for creating new products. I’ve created video courses where each module was based on a chapter in a PLR ebook. I have also taken a PLR report and added/edited it to create my own small paid report. (I am a huge fan of $7 reports tobuild a buyers list.)

Of course, with all of these it is important to pick high quality PLR that your readers will actually enjoy reading and learn from.

Amanda has given us some great examples of how to use PLR content to make money online. Let us know how you use it in your business or if you have any questions in the comments below! If she’s given you ideas about how to use PLR in your business then be sure to stop by her PLR store!
